Increasing Focus Under Stress
Stress can simply be defined by the mental tension created by a specific issue. While solving a stressful problem is the most favorable solution, you are sometimes required to accomplish more important tasks beforehand.
During the process of having to do so, you can feel a little overwhelmed. You may begin to think that it is all too much to deal with all at once. Becoming stressed has caused you to lose focus, resulting in a more chaotic outlook on the situation at hand. This way of thinking can immediately be reversed by making use of just a few mental exercises.
Start by identifying which issue or task is of the utmost importance. While this can seem like a simple solution, for some, it isn’t easy to accomplish. The other issues are what is stressing you out, making it hard to single out what specifically needs to be handled immediately.
When you are stressed, your problems can seem to become larger than they actually are. Routine chores can become full-blown hassles, especially if you become agitated. This is why you must force yourself to prioritize between each specific problem.
There is no shame in procrastinating —If only for a moment, to mentally recharge. Once you have done this, imagine the worst possible outcome of putting off the most important task. This puts things into perspective once again, allowing you to realize that you must focus on it first.
You can do this in the form of going for a walk and clearing your mind before having to reorganize. Other more obvious activities include meditating, listening to calming music, or fixing a home-cooked meal. Surrounding yourself or spending time with someone you love may also help.
Everyone deals with stress in their own way but it’s important not to let it ruin your day-to-day life. Handling each responsibility in a timely manner is the key to relieving yourself of any anxiety that may come with it. If you still continue to feel overwhelmed then it is best to speak with or vent to someone you trust. They might even offer help or a solution that you haven’t yet thought of.
Some people can’t afford to pay attention.
